Significance: The Vermont Monitoring Cooperative (VMC) plays a crucial role in supporting flood resilience by providing comprehensive ecological data that informs floodplain management and response strategies. By analyzing historical flood data—especially the frequency, severity, and geographic impact—VMC helps identify vulnerable areas and guides targeted mitigation efforts across Vermont. This enhances the state's ability to prepare for and respond to future flooding events.

Description: VMC is a collaborative effort among state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions to monitor the ecological health of Vermont's streams and rivers. While not solely focused on flood response, the data collected by the VMC helps inform floodplain management strategies and response efforts. They used historical data to map out and analyze the frequency, extent, severity and location of floods in Vermont. The location feature of VMC’s project will prove especially useful in isolating areas disproportionately affected by the floods and perhaps assessing the areas disproportionately affected by floods.
