Resilient Vermont Network (RVT)
Source: Resilient Vermont Network at Norwich University (March 19, 2024)
Significance: Offers annual conference sessions devoted to the latest research efforts in building resilience. Researchers from Vermont institutions shared how their work has been developed in coordination with community partners and shared insight into how their research contributes to community resilience following disasters and extreme weather.
Description: RVT was established at Norwich University in 2015 to coordinate and support resilience work in Vermont. Efforts include participating in Vermont's State Hazard Mitigation planning process as well as aiding the development of an Academic Resilience Collaborative (ARC) that brings Vermont researchers into communities to minimize or solve Vermont's resilience challenges. RVT has hosted annual conferences, most recently “Resilient Vermont 2024: After the Floods.” Relevant projects included the UVM Spatial Analysis Lab using drones to assess flood damage to Vermont land, particularly rural land; Dr. Sarah Gradjura of UVM Transportation Research Center spoke on the relationship between flooding and transportation, and the related equity challenges, particularly in rural communities.
